This is a course accredited with 5 ECTS by the MFHEA.
The course provides practical secretarial skills targeted to students who are interested in a secretarial career path, individuals who would like to return into the labour market and start a career in administration and secretarial duties, and receptionists/clerks who are looking to further their studies to progress in their career.
Learning Outcomes

- describe the departments found in an organisation;
- identify efficient versus non-efficient filing systems;
- list the tips that make up a good telephone call;
- identify different communication skills in an office environment;
- list invoices in petty cash management;
- identify the process of working wages and salaries;
- recite best qualities for good time-management;
- list different types of meetings and minute taking;
- draw best business writing;
- draft a report;
- find best travel arrangements;
- list and practice customer care qualities;
- identify the best process for job searching and interviewing.
Skills – at the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills:
- apply administration systems as to control resources and information;
- show cultural awareness in dealing with customers and colleagues and utilising the differences in a positive way to enhance the effectiveness and image of the organisation;
- practice the organisation's ethics and code of conduct;
- construct information correctly through effective business writing including the developing of reports;
- arrange and solve work related problems to aid the effectiveness of the organisation;
- apply efficient time management processes, procedures and techniques;
- arrange personal goals and manage himself/herself nicely in a business context.
Entry Requirements
Candidates wishing to enrol in the Award course must be in possession of:
- A School leaving certificate
- A minimum of 1 A level or Intermediate level of education
- 3 O levels
Students who show interest in this award, have a school leaving certificate but do not have all the academic requirements will have to sit for an interview. The interviewers will examine the skills, competence and work experience of the prospective student.
