Maltese Foreign Language MQF Level 2

Description

This is a 20 week course worth 12 ECTS and accredited by the MFHEA, licence number 2015-009.

This course is intended for foreigners seeking to acquire basic skills in the Maltese language. It is intended for adult learners aged 15 years or older with no prior knowledge of the subject who wish to gain knowledge in the Maltese language for living or working in Malta. This course is taught in the English language.

This course is currently open for enrollment.

Learning Objectives for the whole course

By the successful completion of this course, participants of this course are expected to:

  • use and understand elementary to pre-intermediate vocabulary related to thematic areas related to everyday life
  • develop an elementary to pre-intermediate ability to use the language for purposes of practical communication
  • continue developing the four basic language skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) up to an A1+ or an A2 proficiency of the CEFR
  • consolidate and further the basics of Maltese grammar
  • get a more detailed insight of the Maltese culture
  • further improved their pronunciation of Maltese words
  • achieve a deeper understanding of Maltese orthography
  • express typical expressions in the correct intonation
  • formulate appropriate questions and answers along with variations
  • speak about a wider array of daily topics in the Maltese language
  • become more assertive in daily communication
  • learn to become self-reliant in every day communication
  • organize previously acquired knowledge for maximum retention
  • develop a unique study method based on their schedule and personality
  • understand more the basics of Maltese grammar in contrast to their native language(s) as well as other acquired foreign languages
  • create notes and flashcard adapted to their particular level

 

 

  • pronounce and write words written in Maltese
  • achieve a basic understanding of Maltese orthography
  • express typical expressions in the correct intonation
  • formulate appropriate questions and answers along with variations
  • speak about a wide array of daily topics in the Maltese language.
  • use and understand basic vocabulary related to thematic areas related to everyday life
  • develop a basic ability to use the language for purposes of practical communication
  • develop the four basic language skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) up to Level A1 of the CEFR
  • understand the basics of Maltese grammar

  • Develop a proper usage of simple Maltese phrases that regularly occur in ordinary social interaction
  • Utilize correctly widely used Maltese communicative phrases
  • Communicate with basic fluency in a variety of circumstances
  • Gain a further understanding of Maltese culture and traditions
  • Utilize the widely used Maltese communication terms correctly
  • Communicate with basic fluency in a variety of circumstances
  • Acquire an understanding of the sentence form and content of simple written writings.
  • Utilize extremely basic Maltese terminology and phrases that pertain to daily life and are indicative of the home, work, social, and public spheres
  • Utilize fundamental language skills to conduct simple information exchanges

 

Learning Outcomes

By the successful completion of this course, participants of this course will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of Maltese grammar and phrases
  • Develop a rudimentary Maltese vocabulary and master the proper usage of simple Maltese phrases that regularly emerge in ordinary social interaction
  • Gain an understanding of Maltese culture and traditions
  • Use the commonly used Maltese phrases correctly
  • Acquire an understanding of the sentence structure and substance of fundamental written writings
  • Utilize extremely basic Maltese terminology and phrases that pertain to daily life and are indicative of the home, work, social, and public contexts
  • Communicate with basic fluency in a variety of circumstances
  • Utilize fundamental language skills to conduct simple information exchanges

 

Target Candidates

This course is designed for participants over 16 years of age who want to acquire fundamental Maltese communication skills for professional, personal growth, and academic purposes. This course is suitable for people who want to acquire basic Maltese language skills in preparation for applying for a residence visa. Each group will have a maximum of 15 students.

 

Entry Requirements

This course is designed for students with an MQF1 level in Maltese. Applicants require to present an MQF Level 1 certificate in Maltese.
