Advanced Level German
1 session of 1.5 hours weekly
This aim of this course is to help students acquire:
- The ability to understand spoken German;
- The ability to read and understand written German;
- The ability to write the language with accuracy;
- The ability to speak and converse in German with fluency
It also aims at making the candidates aware of the cultural interests and the geographic and socio-political background of the countries where German is spoken; and instilling in candidates an interest for the language and the culture of the German- speaking countries.
The German Advanced Examination is made up of three papers and an oral examination. The content includes:
- Composition
- Comprehension
- Reading Comprehension
- Landeskunde and Literature about the following themes: In Germany, Feasts and traditions in Germany, Modern History of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Germany Today, German Speaking Personalities and the following literary texts: Erich Kästner: Drei Männer im Schnee, Karin König: Ich fühl mich so fifty-fifty, Alex Capus: Fast ein biβchen Frühling , Susanne Wittpennig : Maya und Domenico
