Objectives of the Course:
Upon completion of this course, the learner will have sufficient practical computer knowledge and secretarial skills to enable him/her to deal with the tasks required for the everyday running of an administrative office.

Course Outline:
Through this course, the learner will achieve a number of skills and competencies and will acquire knowledge related to the skills needed to successfully work in an office and perform daily routine tasks in an administrative environment.

Learning Outcomes for each module/award:
Knowledge:
The learner will understand theoretical and practical knowledge, information and tasks related to administration of a computerized office and basic bookkeeping principles. The learner will also acquire the ability to apply such knowledge and understanding towards the solution of everyday and complex situations with creativity, which may lead to further academic or vocational learning. On completion of this course, the learner will:

  • Operate a computer, and other office equipment, gain confidence with hardware and ICT principles in every office environment;
  • Acquire Windows skills: understand filing; manage folders and use applications;
  • Gain Knowledge in Word Processing using Microsoft Word: creating documents; formatting; mail merging; customisation; proofing and printing of your correspondence;
  • Acquire skills in spreadsheets with Microsoft Excel: formulas; functions; creating graphs and charts for your financial data;
  • Attain Database skills in Access: concepts; creation; modification; creation of relationships; reporting; filtering and sorting data to collect data for easy extraction and the creation of reports;
  • Maximise your presentation skills using PowerPoint for the creation effective presentations;
  • Learn all about the Internet and E-mail: web browsing; internet terminology; searching; organising your e-mail; keeping records; sending and receiving e-mails; creating and managing your contacts for faster communication;

Skills - Applying Knowledge and Understanding
Judgmental Skills:

  • Assess, evaluate and interpret facts and situations related to the office ICT environment and apply problem solving techniques.

Learning Skills:

  • Working knowledge of office equipment;
  • Working knowledge of different ICT applications and resources;

Competencies:

  • By the end of this course, the learner will be able to:
